New techniques in breast operation. The role of the stem cells in plastic surgery.

What it is

The stem cells are scattered in all tissues, in a greater density in the adipose tissue. They can be collected through liposuction, a major technological breakthrough with a promising future. While the stem cells are used in medicine for various purposes, in plastic surgery the stem cells can enrich the adipose tissue to be transplanted and therefore greately increase its survival chances.

This technique can be applied wherever we were using Fillers. In areas like cheeks, lips or breast as well.

The adipose transplant is not applied on a large scale in the plastic surgery, as only a 20-30% of the thansplanted adipose tissue survives. But nowadays, with its enhancement with stem cells the survival rate rises up to 90-95% and this enables us to correct some body deficits caused from traumas, birth, surgical or facial deficits. When the breast is surgically removed due to cancer, the whole or part of it, the adipose tissue transplant can replace the deficit mass in breast or face and the surgical result is steady through time.

The same technique can be applied in the cosmetic surgery as well. Thus, the lip-cheek channels can be filles, the lips, the cheeks etc, namely, this technique replaces the Fillers (e.g. hyaluronic acid) where needed a 4-6 month revision. This technique can be applied in the breast augmentation with great success. Until recently, the transplant technique bore no fruit, because the fat transplanted was by 70-80% absorbed and left inner scars that couldn't easily be descerned from cancer duric a mastography. The transplant enrichment with stem cells brought a revolution, as the stem cells seem to develop newplasm vessels within the transplanted adipose tissue, ensuring the blood flow, hence, its survival.

How the operation is done

The operation commences with the selection of the areas that are suitable for liposuction. The fat is collected through the liposuction, half of it will be enhanced with stem cells. So, the patient can have the benefits of the liposuction operation as well. In two hours, we will have in our hans a small fluid quantity from the half of the fat extracted, full of stem cells, which will be added in the other half quantity. With the aid of small syringes, we implant the fat in the deficit area, in the face, the lips or in the breast to repair it or to augment it.

What type of anesthesia is needed?

Depending on the fat quantity that needed to be extracted and on the areas applied, we select general or topical anesthesia or causing a sense of drunkiness. Next, the patient awakes and two hours later the adipose tissue is transplanted with topic anesthesia

Suitable patient and age

Most suitable is the patient who has a volume deficit in any part of his body. The greater, most interesting and impressive application is the breast augmentation. A significant rise on the tissue quantity is required for a significant breast augmentation, which means that patients with excess fat in their waistline and abdomen are the ideal ones. Thus, a thin woman who asks for a big raise of her breasts cannot be suitable for this technique. Small corrections on the volume of the breast in a repair from a mastectomy suit to any patient, since the fat needed is not that much.

Before and after the surgery

Nothing special for someone to take care before or after the operation, apart from the fact that he will be on antibiosis and wear an elastic stay in the liposuction area for a month.

Dangers

Apart from possible general implications during a surgery there are no other dangers, namely a tissue contamination, which is avoided with the use of antibiotics.

The results

It is well known that when we implant fat, it is greatly absorbed.

 

 Hot Tips

The use of special belt is obligatory for one month after abdominoplasty and can only be removed during sleep.

After a breast operation, the patient has to wear a special bra for a month.

Otoplasty can be practiced from the age of 8.

Any patient, obese or not, can have abdominoplasty. The weight loss does not affect the final result.

Rhinoplasty can have girls after the age of 6 and boys after the age of 18.
