NEW TECHNIQUES AND METHODS

BREAST REDUCTION/LIFT – NEW TECHNIQUE

A new breast reduction/lift technique has been introduced, replacing the typical anchor-type scar with a sidelong scar that travels outwards and down. Dr. Stratis Gabriel’s surgical team has been performing this technique for the last three years, as it has many advantages compared to previous techniques.

Firstly, it is a short surgery, which does not last longer than an hour. So, it is not considered major surgery, irrespective of whether the breasts are large or there is extensive ptosis. As a result, the postoperative course is painless and the potential complications are limited. The patient is discharged on the same day.

The main advantage, however, is that the sidelong scar is small, and very shortly starts resembling a stretch mark. The scar in the inframammary fold is ungainly, no matter how excellent the plastic surgeon may be, and it is especially evident when the woman is lying on her back

Furthermore, the shape of the breast is incomparably more natural-looking compared to the previous technique, while it is round and fuller on the inner, lower quadrant, allowing the patient to wear clothes with low cleavage.

This surgical technique has simple anatomical landmarks and can easily be taught to other surgeons, so that they may also have steady and satisfactory results with their patients. The technique was developed by combining older techniques and modifying newer ones, so as to produce a simple and quite effective technique. People often tend to complicate simple things; this new technique is quite evidently simpler. Plastic surgeons will find themselves wondering why they had not thought of implementing common-sense procedures earlier. But this is always the case when looking back at dated techniques.

More than 70 women with breast laxity and ptosis, and over 30 with large to very large breasts have undergone this type of surgery so far. The results have been amazing and stable postoperatively. It is believed that this technique will be established as the technique of choice in breast surgery.
